About Our Agency

The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) is the state agency that plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of:


  • intellectual disability and related disabilities
  • autism spectrum disorder
  • traumatic brain injury
  • spinal cord injury and similar disability

    About Coastal Regional Center

    Coastal Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Summerville, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.



    Function under general guidelines and supervision of the Facility Administrator. -Ability to critically think and make sound medical directions. Provide operational direction and supervision of nursing personnel with in assigned area to include, organizing, implementing evaluation, and delegating nursing care. -Ability to apply nursing care core principles, practices and techniques for patients with Special Needs.

  • Directly to supervises and mentors nursing staff to ensure that the mission, goals, philosophy and functions of the nursing department are supported and can be achieved. -
  • Ensures nursing schedule and coverage is maintained at all times to ensure target staffing levels are met. -Conducts interviews and recommendations for nursing vacancies.
  • -Implements, coordinates and monitors nursing quality management activities to - - - -include, but not limited to, staff training patient care and treatment rendered, - -medication pass observations, medication cart audits, electronic and paper cart - -audits, etc.
  • -Ensures nursing policies and procedures are updated, written, trained and enforced - - in accordance with agency policies and licensing entities.
  • -Ensures implementation and monitors the utilization of the electronic health record - - -system for each patient.
  • -Responds to emergency medical situations to ensure immediate response and - - -treatment is rendered.
  • -Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator.



    Minimum and Additional Requirements
    Licensed as Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. -

    A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution and at least (3) years of nursing experience, or an associate degree in nursing with licensing as a registered nurse and at least (6) years of clinical nursing experience in a long-term care environment. -

    Must have one (1) year of nursing supervisor experience and be certified CPR.

    Record Check: -Criminal background check will be conducted by SLED, FBI, and DSS Child Registry that indicates no record of conviction, child abuse or neglect. Employment would also be contingent on your passing a pre-employment drug test.     Immunization: -If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a (2) step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.\



    State Disaster Plan: -In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.



    College Transcripts: -Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application arerequired to provide an official, certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specifictimeframe required by that area, after hiring.



    Driving Record: -If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
