Job Description SummaryOncology Nurses have the privilege of
consistently spending one on one time with patients, developing
strong personal relationships with both them and their families.
Oncology nurses provide comfort and support throughout the process
of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Our nurses
collaborate with radiation therapists, resident physician, social
workers, dosimetrists, and physicists.
MUSC has 3 radiation oncology clinics locations in the Charleston
area: Hollings Cancer Center, MUSC Main Hospital, and MUSC
Radiation Oncology in Mount Pleasant. These clinics manager and
treat patients with complex cancer diagnoses at differing stages.
We see patients of all ages, although we predominantly treat
adults. We treat all diagnoses, but the most common are neurologic,
head and neck, gynelogic, breast, lung/thoracic, Gastrointestinal
(GI) and Genitourinary (GI), prostate, and sarcomes. The treatment
modalities include external beam radiation, brachytherapy, and

Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Registered
Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to
families and patients at the competent level utilizing the
principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and
effective care and interacts with other members of the health care
team to achieve desired results.
Minimum Training and Education: - Bachelor of Nursing degree
preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an
Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled
in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully
obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or
reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A
minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse
required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: - Licensure as a
registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a
compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a
certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for
Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American
Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare

a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is
required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability
to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
(Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or
at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate
between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine
distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
