Position Summary: The Meat & Seafood Team Leader is responsible for modeling Earth Fares Mission, Conviction and Purpose, while training and developing a successful team within the Meat & Seafood Department. Overall responsibilities include adhering to the departments Standard Operating Procedures; meeting and exceeding financial goals including gross profit, shrink, sales, labor and department over-head. This person is responsible for ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The Meat & Seafood Team Leader also acts as a key holder to support overall store operations. This position requires one to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.Essential Functions

  • Training & Development: Communicates the Earth Fare vision, standard operating procedures, merchandising guidelines, and financial goals to Team Members, with strong emphasis on customer service, safety and sanitation. Interviews, selects, trains, and supports team members with the goal of developing new leaders in the Meat & Seafood Department. Maintains a positive and professional work environment. Clearly defines and communicates expectations and standards for maintaining the fresh cases throughout the day. Continue to take the initiative to perfect craft through individual training and development.
  • Production: Supervises and participates in the production of in-house meat cutting with extensive knowledge of meat and seafood varieties and cuts. Maintains proper presentation and display of quality meat and seafood items. Ensures high standards of quality control.
  • Operational Tasks: Ordering and receiving deliveries; scheduling; checking daily and weekly sales/movement reports, shrink reports, emails and responding accordingly; conducting monthly department inventory. Continually find ways to reduce expenses.
  • Merchandising: Develops and maintains attractive fresh meat and seafood cases by implementing Earth Fare merchandising guidelines.
  • Department Conditions: Establishes cleanliness, sanitation, and overall organization of the department including all fixtures, storage, work stations, freezers, and coolers.Knowledge and Essential Critical Skills/Expertise
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to train, coach in the moment, and lead people in a positive and professional manner.
    • Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
    • Proficient knowledge of meat and seafood varieties and cuts.
    • Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper use of knives, saws and other equipment used in meat and seafood preparation.
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Outlook. Ability to learn and use a Falcon hand-held computer scanner.
    • Leadership experience managing a team of people.

    • Must attend work on a regular and predictable basis.
    • Must complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.

    • Must work in a cooperative manner with team leaders, supervisors, coworkers, customers and the public.
    • Must uphold the highest standard of integrity, honesty and ethical behavior.
    • Must work effectively and efficiently under stressful conditions.
    • Must be able to work varying shifts, including overtime.
      • Proven success managing shrink, sales, gross-profit and total overhead of a department in a similar environment required.
      • 2-3 years minimum experience as a professional meat cutter/butcher.
      • 2-3 years minimum grocery retail experience within the Meat Department preferred.
      • Perishable experience and OSHA ServSafe Certification preferred.The knowledge, skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through levels of education and experience. However, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience, which provide an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job, is acceptable.Environmental Conditions
        • Works in a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service.
        • Will work in environments of extreme cold for extended periods of time (coolers & freezers).
        • May travel periodically for meetings.Physical Demands
          • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. (In the event an item weighs over 50 pounds the Team Member should have another member of the team help lift the item).
          • Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, kneel and squat.
          • Must be able to push, pull, and maneuver heavy loads.
          • Must be able to stand and be on ones feet the majority of the work day.
          • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
